Today, we went to Mass, as a family, for the first time since Den had his pacemaker problem last November. Den had been to weak to get out of the house for anything other than doctors appointments up until now. It was so very nice to see old friends and reconnect with those that were so instrumental in getting Den to help when this all started. Keith, one of the ushers, saw Den right away and came over to welcome him back. He commented on how much better Den looked.

I have to tell you that Den’s faith is very important to him. He prays the rosary every day and it helps him stay connected to his faith when he cannot get out to Mass. He prays every evening and talks to his mom and dad, who are both deceased, to ask for guidance and to watch over those who are in need of help. I have never been what you would call religious. I am spiritual and I do believe in God, but I have some issues with my Catholic faith. But that is for another time. I do pray, in my own way, but not often. The biggest times I pray is when someone I know is in need or suffering. So over the past 8 months I have prayed more than usual.

Anyway, when Mass was concluded, we went out to breakfast to celebrate. It was a very nice day out and we sat outside when we got home to enjoy the beautiful day. Harrison, our dog, chased the squirrels as usual and finally jumped up into Den’s lap and they both napped together in the fresh air.

Den had a terrible night last night. He barely slept. He asked me to call Elaine, the physical therapists, to reschedule for another day. She gladly cancelled for today when I told her of Den’s lack of sleep last night and said she would come on Wednesday instead.  So I put Den back to bed, but I kept an eye on him on and off through out the day.

I went to work today and Den’s only appointment was with Vernetta, the occupational therapist. He said the session went well, but he doesn’t know why he needs to continue with OT. He said he wants to cancel OT going forward.  I told him that we should discuss it with Elaine tomorrow and he agreed.

Elaine, the physical therapist, was right on time at 9AM. Den asked if she could do both his PT and OT in the future. She said that she could incorporate some of the OT that he would be doing with another therapist into some of his PT. She told Den to call the office if he wanted to discontinue his OT with Vernetta. After Elaine put Den through his PT work out, we went to get Den’s weekly blood draw at the outpatient clinic. We had no problems, since we now had a copy of the order in hand, they could not say that they could not find the one that was faxed over. When we finished at registration, they gave us a card that would make things a little faster in the future. This card had all of Den’s lab series numbers on it and enabled the registration staff to complete his registration with out us needing to see them. It does move things along faster when the clinic is not too busy. When we got home, Den called the home health care office and told them he wanted to discontinue his OT.
