Celebration

December 5, 2016

Tomorrow is Em’s birthday. Den and I decided to surprise her with dinner out with my parents. We wanted to go to our favorite family diner, but when we arrived they were not open. All of us were sad and the adults were now scrambling for another location. We finally ended up at Scrimenti’s. An Italian restaurant about 15 minutes away from our original choice location. 20161205_183448.jpg

Em was so confused by the time we finally sat down at a table that she couldn’t decide what she wanted to eat. I kind of helped that along by ordering her favorite appetizer….fried calamari. I don’t remember how she first tried calamari, but she loves it and I have grown to even like it myself. Em and my Dad ended up ordering the angel hair with meatballs, and I really don’t remember what the rest of us had that night, but we all had a very good time. I had my parents sneak in a cake with candles for Em. When the waitresses came out with it and sung happy birthday, Em wanted to crawl under the table. She is one of those people that don’t want to be fussed over in public, at home she is a totally different person.

All in all it was a great night, we all ate well and I have lots of leftovers in the fridge for the next few days at work…if they last that long!

Tomorrow starts the Volleyball season, so no rest for the wicked.

I had to work today, so I could not go to the first Volleyball home game of the season. The coaches and refs got wind that today is Em’s birthday. They all surprised her by having the players and spectators sing her happy birthday after the game. Her half-sister and her girls made posters that said…..24 is 12 today! Em called me on the way home from the game (which they won) to tell me all about the game and the singing. I could hear in her voice that she was very happy. Whether it was winning the game or so many other people singing her happy birthday, I will never know.
