After we dropped Em off at school, Den and I headed to the get his weekly blood draw done. When we were done there, we headed off to his GP for his check up. This visit Den got his flu shot and we talked about his mental health a little bit. Dr. Hennecke suggested that Den might want to see a counselor to help with his anxiety. He said that he would think about it. Doc also let us know that she wanted to do some extra blood work at our next visit.

Today is Sauerkraut Day! Lisa, Joe, and Kevin are coming over to help. With Den, Em, Mom, Dad and myself, we have more hands than we need, but I never turn down help with kraut!
Den’s job was cutting up the heads of cabbage. And there was a lot of cabbage this year.
Lisa, Kevin and Em took turns using the “Kraut Kutter” (that is the actual name burned on the back of the shredder). This one has 4 blades (very, very sharp) set at an angle to the board to shred the cabbage.
Harrison guarded the bags of shredded cabbage. He was just too cute!
And I got the usual job of weighing and mixing the cabbage with the salt in the crock.
When all was said and done, we had 84 pounds of cabbage in the crock. The only problem with doing that much at one time is getting the full crock back into the house! It was really heavy and awkward! But thanks to my strong men, it got done and now we just need to wait about 21 days to put all this goodness into jars and process it. That way we can have sauerkraut all winter and next summer any time we want!
